The Ring Nebula in Lyra is one of the most famous planetary nebulae. Rather than a ring, this nebula is actually two lobes in a peanut shape and seen end-on. With large telescopes, it can be observed a faint outer halo and an inner halo of the lobes channeled by a ring formed by the original ejection of gas.
