About this Object
This type Sc spiral
galaxy in Ursa major was discovered by Pierre Méchain on March 27,
1781.
M 101 lies at a distance of approximately 24 million light years
with a magnitude listed 7.9. Although extended 22 arc minutes on
photos and quite bright, only the central region of this galaxy
is visible in smaller telescopes.
