USNO-SA1.0 Catalogue

C2a can read the USNO-SA1.0 catalogue which contains 488,006,860 stars. This catalogue is published as a CD-ROM by the US Naval Observatory and it provides an astrometric reference for asteroid hunters. It is a shortened version of the USNO-A1.0 catalogue. As you can see in the extract form the field on the left, this catalogue seeks to provide regular astrometric sky coverage, and you should not expect to find all stars of less than a given magnitude. Note that C2A is also able to read the USNO-A1.0 catalogue as well as the USNO-A2.0 catalogue (provided by the US Naval Observatory on 11 CD-ROMs).

You select the USNO-SA1.0 catalogue as the current catalogue through the Stars tab of the Options dialogue box, or by SHIFT-right-clicking on the map. You can choose whether to display the blue magnitude or the red magnitude by clicking the Advanced options... button on the  Stars tab of the Options dialogue box.

The information associated with each star in the catalogue are as follows:

  • the red magnitude

  • the blue magnitude

  • the right ascension for the epoch 2000

  • the declination for the epoch 2000
