          The actual central line ran about 45km north of the updated central line and predicted central occultation time error was < 5 s giving a total update error of ~0.03". Reduction of the observations by J. MANEK gives an elliptic shape of  108 X 61 km. MSI missed the shadow by less than a few hundred meters !
           MTN recorded an extinction on his CCD track but it is probably due to clouds.

GCV at Linhaceira N 39 31 22.6  W 08 23 01.5  +90m :

          [mp 0.22"  ±  0.03"  N of  * at 18 59 04  ±  7 s , from 19 CCD images]

          Slovakian positive observations confirm the J. Manek’s update but are incompatible with the GCV results. According to these, the real path should have been shifted by 1/2 path width South and 55 s. sooner relative to the update.

          As the speed of the shadow was of 5.62 km/sec, PNL chord measures 41.6 km. If the diameter of mp is 45 km, and with the hypothesis of a circular limb, PNL was at 8.6 km from the central line, either on the eastern or western side. The closest negative observation is the HJP one (57.9 km East of PNL chord), on the other side : KZA was at 76.4 km West.

Please send the reports quickly, about positive as well as negative observations !

A positive observation : an occultation is recorded;

A negative observation : the star remained visible throughout the survey.

Use the “Comments” to signal for instance : any doubt about the authenticity of the occultation, interruption in the survey (because of clouds,… : use the “I” and “J” timings).

Do not send a report if the observation is completely clouded out or the star unseen for any reason.

Please use the IAU format YYYYMMDD for the date. 04/05/03 is NOT 4th of May 2003 !
