No user-friendly installer is available for the moment. Here are some indications to make JEphem run.
  • As JEphem is developed in java, it needs a java virtual machine (version 1.4 or later) to run. If you don't have already one installed on your machine, you can go to Sun's site (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html), download a JRE (Java Runtime Environment), and install it.

  • Then download jephem0.0-exe.zip of the download area and unzip it. All the files will be located in a directory named 'JEphem'.

  • Edit the script 'JEphem_run.bat', located in directory JEphem/java, and adapt it to your machine (change the path to the java interpreter). It should be easy both under Linux and Windows. It doesn't use environment variables. If you have a problem, mail me, I'll try to help.

  • You can run JEphem by launching 'JEphem_run.bat'.

  • If you want to also use Swiss ephemeris (which provides computation from DE406), you need to download the files semo_18.zip and sepl_18.zip and copy them to the directory 'JEphem/data/astro/swissEphem'.
These two files permit to use Swiss Ephemeris library for the planets and the Moon from 1800 to 2400 AD.
To compute for other dates, you need to download additional files from ftp://ftp.astro.ch/pub/swisseph/ephe/. They also must be copied to the directory 'JEphem/data/astro/swissEphem'.
