Unquestionably the most spectacular comet of the 20th century. Discovered independently by Alan Hale (New Mexico) and Thomas Bopp in Arizona on July 23, 1995. This is the farthest comet ever discovered by amateurs. It was visible to the naked eye even in urban areas in the spring of 1997. Its period is 2.392 years.
