NGC147 Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy in Cassiopeia

(RA 0h 33.2m , Dec. +48°30', 9.5 mag., 15.0 x 9.4 arcmin.)


This is, after NGC185, the second faint companion of Andromeda Galaxy is located in Cassiopeia. It can be found almost 2° W of o Cassiopeiae (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on August 29, 1998 from Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope and it was autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera on a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. White exposures (8 x 240 sec.) were combined with cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered images (3 x 240 sec. each) using AIP4WIN. Color image was then adjusted in Lab color space using Corel PhotoPaint 8.

North is to the right.
