Mosaic of North America (NGC7000) and Pelican (IC5067 & IC5070) Nebulae in Cygnus

(NGC7000 = RA 20h 58.8m , Dec. +44°20', 120 x 100 arcmin.)

This complex of intertwined emission and dark nebulae is detectable with a naked eye as a bright area of Milky Way about 2 ° SEE of Deneb (aCygni - see finder chart below). Rich field telescope is an instrument of choice to tour this region and nebular filter enhances the visibility of nebulae against the surrounding starclouds.

The above mosaic was assembled from 72 tiles composed of 216 images taken on September 2 and 7 and October 2, 1999 from Sooke, B.C. Celestron Ultima 8 SCT with f3.0 focal reducer and Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera were used to acquirethree white (infrared blocking filter only) 60 sec. exposures for each tile. Images corresponding to individual tiles were combined with Multi245 software from Richard Berry and the mosaic was assembled with Corel PhotoPaint 8.

The above image is reduced to 25% of the original. North is up.
