LMC and Tarantula
Field centered on R.A. 05h 25' & Dec. -69° 45'
This is the larger of the two little sisters of our galaxy. The Large Magellanic Cloud (NGC292) is an irregular galaxy large more than 10°, an impressive naked eye night cloud. The bight and large red nebula in the image above is the Tarantula Nebula (NGC2070), the only bright nebula of an external galaxy visible with naked eye. The entire field is full of HII regions. |
