Proxima Centauri

Field centered on R.A. 14h 20' & Dec. -61° 50'

 

Proxima Centauri is the closest star to our Sun, but even if it is only 4.28 light years away this red duarf is only of magnitude 11!! The two bright stars are "the Pointers" Alpha Centauri (Rigil Kent) and Beta Centauri (Hadar). At left of Rigil Kent is the open cluster NGC5617.
