Meteor Showers

Here are audio files related to meteor showers. They were recorded on HF and VHF bands.

You will find on this page recordings of QSOs worked by radio amateurs, including with ISS, the sound of different transmission modes and interferences, as well as recordings of historical events.

You will find on this page recordings related to astronautic events, transmissions from satellite and other spacecrafts, as well as reports from astronauts and cosmonauts on orbit.

Check also my animations for hundreds other videos and films.

Strong echo of a Perseid. Source and instrument unknown

A very strong ping from Geminids recorded on December 15, 2003 at 1140z (0440 am local time). It is preceeded and followed by 2 small pings. It was recorded using NAVSPASUR radar tuned on 217 MHz. It is installed at Roswell, NM, the radar site being monitored by engineer Stan Nelson. The high powered CW Radar site is 300 miles east of the recording station. Stan Nelson used a 13 element Yagi pointed upward about 15 degrees. Recorded by Thierry Lombry, ON4SKY, using Spaceweather live audio system

A strong double ping from a Geminid recorded on December 14, 2003 at 1045z (0345 am local time). Same conditions as above but I reduced the background noise amplitude of 40%

Three pings from Geminids recorded on December 14, 2003 at 1108z. Same conditions as above

Two pings from Geminids recorded on December 14, 2003 at 1208z. Same conditions as above

Crossing of a small Geminid with doppler effect (shifting from 780 to 1550 Hz) recorded on December 13, 2004 at 1205z. Same conditions as above

A typical Geminid echo (ping) recorded on December 13, 2003 at 1515z. Same conditions as above

Six Geminids (pings) recorded on December 13, 2003 at 1044z. Same conditions as above. In some events the sounds extends over 500 Hz

Several Geminids echoing strongly in the ionosphere. Recorded on December 13, 2003 at 1146z by a radar tuned on 67 MHz located at Roswell, NM. Recorded by Thierry Lombry using Spaceweather live audio system

A great number of potential Geminids recorded on December 13, 2003 at 0953z by a radar tuned on 67 MHz located at Roswell, NM. The rate of pings is high, typical for early morning. The 67 MHz signals are using distant TV Video carrier on Channel 4. Many echoes are multiple since two or more carriers can contribute. It is interesting to hear the slight delays in a common echo. Also the TV carriers are offset from each other for the very reason of meteor echo interference. Recorded by Thierry Lombry using Spaceweather live audio system

Explosion of a bolid on April 23, 2001 between California and Hawaii. Recorded in infrasound from the Anza-Borrego desert, CA, 1800 km from the event. The sound has been speeded up 200 times so that the sound can be heard. Document ASA, Michael Hedlin, Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Milton Garces, University of Hawaii at Manoa
