SAF planetary observations commission

Images submission

Image

1. Orientation (North/South) must be shown, East and West must be oriented in the normal way (no vertical symmetry on the image : nothing to do on a reflector or classic refractor with two mirrors).

2. The planet should be the most horizontal possible (ie horizontal bands for Jupiter, horizontal rings for Saturn, etc. ...)

3. The image file should be preferably PNG format, or JPG (minimal compression,to keep the best image quality possible)

4. Image should present at least following information:

a. middle date and time of the acquisition movie, with second (or the tenth of minute) accuracy, or rounded to the closest minute in Universal Time
b. name of the observer
c. used filter type: IR-Cut, R610nm filter, etc. Please state if the image is a :
             - color one
             - RGB (monochrome sensor with one image for each color)
             - LRGB (monochrome sensor with one image for each color and one for the luminance)
             - specific filter one (IR, UV, or color filter, with if possible its bandwidth - for example IR>742nm) (image should be then black & white)
d. instrument used for acquisition
e. longitude in the planet coordinate system(s) (see below, "coordinate systems") of the central meridian (given by WinJUPOS or AstroCalc for example)

example:

Filename of the image

The filename of the image should be like the following:

pYYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM[-SS]_filter_obs.png or .jpg
where p=initial of the planet (j for Jupiter, s for Saturn, u for Uranus, n for Neptune, v for Venus, ...)
time is the time of the middle of the acquisition movie:
YYYY= year in universal time (ex: 2006)
MM=month in universal time (ex: 04)
DD=day in universal time (ex:13)
HH=hour in universal time (ex:20)
optional: SS=seconds (ex:30)
optional: filter=filter(s) used (ex:rgb)
obs=observer code given by the webmaster/section coordinator if needed (ex:md)

example: s2006-04-13_20-58-30_rgb_md.png

Image submission

To sumbit your image, send it by email to the section responsible, to PVOL (pvol@ehu.es) and to SAF webmaster Marc Delcroix

Your images pages

Once online on our website, your own images ate directly available on pages, especiially:
     - a synthesis of the time coverage of your images  http://astrosurf.com/planetessaf/saturne/images/planches/index.php?o=MDe
     - all of your images: http://astrosurf.com/planetessaf/saturne/images/planches/astro_images.php?printimages=oui&racine=s&o=MDe

where at the end of each URL address, you replace "o=MDe" by "o=" followed by your observer code.
     - a direct access at a specific image or a image serie: you just need to click right on a link or on an image from the previous URL addresses, and select "copy link" or "copy image link".
       For example, to get Saturn images from observer "MDe", from 2012.05.16: www.astrosurf.com/planetessaf/saturne/images/planches/astro_images.php?lang=fr&o=MDe&racine=s&y=2012&m=5&d=16

where in every link, you replace :
    "planetessaf/saturne" by [mandatory]
        "planetessaf/autres" for Mercury, Uranus, Neptun and dwarf planets
        "planetessaf/venus" for Venus
        "planetessaf/mars" for Mars
        "planetessaf/jupiter" for Jupiter
        "planetessaf/saturne" for Saturn
        "planetessaf/occultations" for occultations and mutual phenomena
    "lang=fr" for a menu in French or "lang=en" for a menu in English [optional]
     "o=CPe" by "o=" followed by your observer code [optional]
    "racine=s" by [mandatory]:
        "racine" = h for Mercury,
        v for Venus,
        m for Mars,
        j for Jupiter,
        s for Saturn,
        u for Uranus,
        n for Neptune,
        p for Pluto,
        c for Ceres,
        phemu for mutuam phenomena
        occ for occultations
    "y=2012" by year of observations [optional]
    "m=9" by month of observations [optional]
    "d=6" by day of observations [optional]

Saturn coordinate systems

Three coordinate systems exists but only two are used:
     - the longitude "system I", with a 10h14m00s rotation period, to measure longitudes on the globe
     - the longitude "system III", with a 10h39m22s rotation period, corresponding to Saturn's magnetic field rotation

Image submission

To submit your image, you can:
     - either post a message on the (french speaking) Yahoo group planetes-saf with image attached or an hyperlink

     - or send it by mail to the section coordinator and webmaster Marc Delcroix

Your images pages

Once uploaded on the website, your own images are available in dedicated pages, for example:
     - a synthesis of the observing cover of your images  http://astrosurf.com/planetessaf/jupiter/images/planches/index.php?o=MDe&lang=en
     - all of your images: http://astrosurf.com/planetessaf/jupiter/images/planches/astro_images.php?printimages=oui&racine=s&o=MDe&lang=en

where at the end of each link, you have to replace "o=MDe" by "o=" followed by your observer code.
