USER'S FEEDBACK

I received the diagonal yesterday evening.  I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but all I can say is WOW!  It's the best looking diagonal I have ever seen. I'll post a review later on its performance.
Thanks for a beautiful product.  It will make the rest of my scope look ugly.

Dear Williams Optics Et. Al - Just a note from the 'Big Sky' land of Montana to let you know how pleased I am with the quality and performance of your 2" Mirror Diagonal on my C14. OUTSTANDING!!! It is everything I was hoping for and more. You have set a new standard in excellence. Thanks.

I  just wanted to tell you I received my SCT-DIG2"  today, and I was very impressed with the everything about this diagonal. The packaging you put it in, the workmanship and the performance and physical stability are outstanding. Thankyou very much for a great product!

Thanks. I received the diagonal and focuser yesterday afternoon. Tried them out last night. I was so impressed with the SCT diagonal, that I have ordered the non-SCT diagonal you sell so I can use it with the new crayford focuser (originally planned on using the Crayford with my old 1.25" diagonal because of size constraints). The views through the 2" SCT diagonal on my old Meade 10" SCT are so bright it was like having a brand new telescope. First rate accessories, Great job!!!

The 2"-format "New Generation" star diagonal arrived yesterday. It's a masterpiece! It is  beautifully machined, and it's obvious that the designer took great pains to eliminate glancing  reflections and stray light. Thanks for such a fine product for such a low price.

Kind regards,
Tom Dobbin

I got to use my new 2" diagonal on 01/15/03. Even with all the neighborhood lights and the moon the views were great. It is a huge improvement over the standard diagonal on my meade lxd55 ar-5. Images were much sharper with less false color and less image shift. I can use higher power before the image degrades. I also got to use it on 01/17/03 to test my new baader film solar filter. The views of the sun were also great. This is the best $99.00 upgrade anyone can buy for their telescope. I belong to several yahoo telescope groups and I gave you (William Optics) a plug on my post to the solar group about the viewing improvements with the diagonal. Thank-you for making an excellent product.

A Superb Diagonal at a Great Price!
I recently got a William Optics 2" diagonal from Anacortes ($100). I've been looking for a while now for a decent diagonal. Over time I've separately bought a TeleVue (1.25", $75) and a Lumicon LumiBright (1.25", $150). Both were badly misaligned, though not as badly as the one that came with my Synta refractor. Well, good news: the William Optics diagonal is superb! In addition to the 1/10-wave mirror (which I am not in a position to verify, but unlike the other brands WO puts 1/10-wave in their advertising), the construction is solid, attractive, and allows easy access to the mirror. Inside, the mirror lies flat against the metal housing (full contact over the entire mirror back, not just at the rim), and it's held in place by rubber tubing on the shorter-length edges and foam rubber on the longer edges. Nice design. What's more, there is no glue or adhesive; the mirror is kept firmly in place without the need for such crude tactics. This makes this diagonal eminently suitable for easy shimming to adjust its alignment. I'm happy to report that I doubt the need would normally arise. I made measurements with my laser collimator by drawing spots on the wall across the house. The WO 2" I received is only 5.4 arcminutes out of alignment. This is excellent for this price range. Contrast that with the LumiBright *after* 2 hours of shimming and adjustment: 15 arcmin. (It was originally three times worse.) My Synta diagonal was 1.2 degrees off. I also have an INTES 1.25" Herschel wedge, and for grins I measured its alignment: 7.2 arcmin -- also excellent, in line with INTES's reputation. Finally, the WO came with a 1.25" adapter which has the same high-quality machining as the diagonal housing. Both the diagonal and the adapter(!) are threaded for filters. Also, both diagonal and adapter use compression rings to hold your eyepieces. Thus, in summary, the William Optics 2" diagonal is superbly constructed, very well aligned, and an absolute steal at $100.

A "Star" is Born Move over "brand name" products, a new star is born. The Williams Optics 2" star diagonal is the new standard in the business. A solid piece of aluminum complete with brass compression fitting, large thumb screws and a barlow ledge to prevent eyepieces from hitting the mirror. Other standard features include threaded 48mm filter fitting, 2"to 1.25"compression fitting adapter and reflectivity rate of 97%. It also has a neat feature should you wish to access the inside to clear or replace mirror. Both  "aluminum" sides that flank the diagonal can be removed to reveal the interior. So how does this diagonal compare to the big boys of past? Let’s just say after several nights of comparing the "top three" the Williams Optics equaled or exceeded in resolve and Reflectivity. If this doesn't  spin your spur, the two tone black/polished aluminum "modern" look will. With it also being the lowest cost in the high-end diagonal arena by more than half the price, the Williams Optics is clearly the winner. Sorry other  "brand-names" move over a star is born!

Great Star Diagonal at a Great Price
Just received by William Optics 2" 90 degree Star Diagonal. The alignment of the mirror was excellent on my new TEC 140 mm oil spaced apochromat refractor. It performed well with my Televue eyepieces. This item comes with not only the 2" compression ring but a 1 1/4" adapter with a compression ring, too. Finally, it is threaded for 2" filters. I counted off one rate level as the compression rings tend to grab the eyepieces when pulling them out of the diagonal. Almost appears it would need a slight filing with a fine file to smooth or polish the brass compression ring. It is not a major detractor to its performance. When you consider that it would cost three times more to get only a slightly greater quality in a Televue, Takahashi, or Astro-Physics, it is a very good bargain.
