Solar wedge ray-tracing

Ray-tracing done with Optgeo software : http://jeanmarie.biansan.free.fr/optgeo.html

A BK7 wedge is assumed. It is reminded that the coefficient of reflection is about 5% at 45° incience and 4% at normal incidence.

Solar wedge - variant I

The prism angle is set so that the reflection on the rear surface of the prism is directed forward, and away from the eyepiece field of view.

The angle of the prism can be increased so that the reflected beam is sent back along the direction of the incoming light beam

Solar wedge - variant II

Here, the principle is to set the prism angle so that the back reflection on the first surface is total. The exit beam is directed upward. Part of the light beam is also directed to the upper section of the wedge.
