Washington Double Star Catalog

C2A natively includes the WDS catalogue (Washington Double Star Catalogue). This catalogue is provided with the standard distribution of C2A and does not need to be downloaded separately. The current version of this catalogue includes 103,859 objects. The catalogue is maintained by the United States Naval Observatory and it forms the principal cataologue of astrometric information for double and multiple stars. The catalogue gives positions (J2000), designations and discoveries, dates of first and latest observations, separations, magnitudes, spectral types, proper motions and, when available, Durchmusterung references.

This catalogue was updated by the USNO on 15 December 2008.

You select the WDS catalogue as the current catalogue through the Stars tab of the Options dialogue box, or by SHIFT-right-clicking on the map. The double stars are represented on the maps by conventional symbols (barred discs).

All the necessary information on the GCVS catalogue is available on:   http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astrometry/optical-IR-prod/wds/WDS/wds/?searchterm=WDS
