NGC2655 Galaxy in Camelopardalis

(RA 8h 55.6m , Dec. +78°13', 10.1 mag., 6.0 x 5.3 arcmin.)


This bright galaxy is located almost halfway between M81 / M82 group and Polaris (a Ursae Minoris). A 4.3 mag. star SAO1551 (marking the end of Draco's tail) is the most convenient point to start starhop to NGC2655 (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on August 12, 2001 from Harrowsmith, Ontario with Last Quater Moon and thin clouds interfering. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 SCT with f6.3 focal reducer. The image is composed of multiple white integrations (9 x 240 sec.) combined in AIP4WIN.

North is to the right.
