Alexandre SANTERNE

About meAlexandre Santerne at La Silla Observatory (Chile)

Hi, I’m Alexandre SANTERNE, french astronomer, working at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille as part of the Aix-Marseille University.

I completed a PhD thesis in Astrophysics and Cosmology at the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (Aix - Marseille University). I then moved to Porto (Portugal) for a postdoc at the Instituto de Astrofisica e Ciêncas do Espaço, as a Marie Curie fellow.

My research interests are related to the exploration of extrasolar planets, especially those passing in front of their host stars (so-called transiting planets). I’m an expert in both high-precision and high-resolution spectroscopy for radial velocity measurements and space-borned photometry for transit measurements. Using both techniques, I’m  able to determine the bulk density of extrasolar planets that help to understand their internal structure, formation and evolution. I contributed to exoplanet detections and characterisations with the CoRoT and Kepler space missions, together with the SOPHIE, HARPS and HARPS-N spectrographs.
