M98 in Coma Berenices, at 50 to 60 million light years away, is part of the Coma-Virgo galaxy cluster, together with M88, M91, M99, M100 and several other galaxies.

It is a spiral galaxy inclined 160 from our line of sight. Visually, it´s a bright spindle 7' long and a third as wide. A stellar nucleus blazes inside an intense region 30" in diameter. The core is flanked by enhancements from associations of stars in the spiral arms. A 13th magnitude star lies 3' north of the core.
